Abstract: |
The sides of a storm-drain cut through the Scheduled Ancient Monument of the Aston Cursus, were cleaned and archaeologically recorded. The western cursus ditch was not present, suggesting the presence of a gap or entrance through the cursus ditch immediately north of Acre Lane. The eastern cursus ditch was located buried below some 1.3m of sediment and some 100m away from the line of the western cursus ditch. The character of the basal fills of the eastern cursus ditch were similar to those in a recently excavated section of the western cursus ditch by Weigh Lane, Aston upon Trent. The upper fill of the eastern cursus ditch was alluvium. A fragment of waterlogged wood from the base of the cursus ditch was retained for radiocarbon dating. [Au(adp)] |
