Abstract: |
The archaeological excavation was undertaken as part of a drainage scheme. The evaluation recorded evidence of two stone post pads or post hole packing opposite the belfry door. These may have formed the support for a porch or canopy over the door, although this was not supported by documentary evidence. Assuming such a structure had existed, it would be likely to have been post-medieval but earlier than the Victorian renovations. Artefacts consisted of medieval pottery and a prick spur. In addition, walls were identified; however, their function and date was unknown. [Au(abr)] |
