Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of footings for an extension on the site. The site had a perceived high archaeological potential which was based on its location immediately south of a medieval church in an area which may have formed part of the core of a medieval settlement. The only feature identified was a wide ditch, the fill of which comprised dark gery to black loam with some clay lumps. The only finds recovered were redbrick and tile fragments, all from the upper levels of the feature. Although no absolute date for the ditch was put forward it seemed likely that the ditch was filled in the post-medieval period. It could not be ruled out that it was in some way related to the churchyard to the north as it was parallel to the existing boundary. [Au(adp)] |
