Abstract: |
A series of trial trenches excavated prior to housing development revealed a number of ditches and shallow pits with in situ burning. These features were hard to date due to a lack of finds but three of the ditches were given a post-medieval date due to their fill of brick and tile. The rest of the ditches were tentatively attributed to be prehistoric due to a single struck flint and a possible Iron Age pottery sherd. The shallow pits with in situ burning could not easily be dated and so samples were taken for possible further analysis. A low level of medieval activity was indicated by a few sherds of pottery recovered from a large shallow pit and as spot finds in the subsoil. [AIP] |
