Abstract: |
Observations made during the ground works at the Portsmouth Grammar School site showed that the remains of the Borough Gaol and the Clarence Barracks lay under this area. Deep thick walls associated with the prison complex were found along the western end of the site in Trenches 1, 14 and 17 and along the eastern boundary north of the building to be extended in Trench 4. Shallower walls and some of the concrete layers found along the northern edge of the building to be extended were associated with later building of the Clarence barracks. [Au(abr)] |
