Abstract:
<summary>A watching brief was undertaken during preliminary groundworks and construction phases of the National Rivers Authority flood alleviation scheme. The trial-pits and drainage ditches were cut through a deposit of alluvial clay which contained little of archaeological interest. This deposit was considered suitable for the foundation of the new flood banks; any archaeological material below the clay would therefore be preserved. {italon}AIP{italoff}
