Abstract: |
A watching brief along the route of the access road to the proposed power station revealed no archaeological features and only a scatter of undiagnostic pieces of worked flint and pottery. An evaluation consisting of 9 machine cut trenches was conducted on the site of the proposed power station. The trenches revealed Pleistocene sands and gravels in the east of the site and alluvial clays of late prehistoric to modern date. Two trenches in the centre of the site revealed three archaeological features, one linear and two pits. All three features contained burnt clay and one pit contained worked flint, 2 iron objects, animal bone, 2 pieces of quern stone and two sherds of pottery of probable late prehistoric date. [Au] |
