Abstract: |
The museum was called out after trenches had been deepened and the remains of a sandstone wall, bonded by lime mortar, were found in the corner of the trench. The wall was just off of the line of the overlying sandstone foundation for the early 19th century boundary wall but lay some 0.80m below the present ground surface. The wall had been covered by redeposited natural olive sand. The wall did no appear to correspond to a boundary indicated on one of the historic maps of Warwick suggesting it might be of an earlier date. However, there was no dating evidence associated with the wall. Two sherds of pottery only were recovered by the contractors. One of these was a fragment of factory made slipware and the other was a green-glazed fragment of late medieval pottery. [Au(abr)] |
