Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during construction of a Severn Trent Water pipeline to the north-west and south of Blyth. The route of the pipeline crossed areas of ancient field-systems recorded by cropmarks. Some 6km of trenches in the road and verges, and one length of easement were stripped of ploughsoil and monitored. Five features were identified, all bar one in the location where a ditch had been predicted from cropmark evidence. The only artefacts recovered were a medieval enamelled disc and a rim sherd of probable later medieval pottery, both from topsoil stripping. [Au] |
