Abstract: An archaeological watching brief was undertaken within an area of land which lay within the medieval core of Hutton. Several sherds of 14th century pottery were revealed, some of which may have pre-dated most of the previously recorded medieval pottery from the Hutton area. The location of an 18th century orchard was also revealed, this containing 19th and 20th century cow burials. The watching brief proved that the site was part of a pre-enclosure open field system, no direct evidence of medieval settlement having been found. [AIP]
