Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the groundworks associated with the refurbishment of the Mill Road builder's workshop for conversion to National Trust Warden's accommodation. Deposits of medieval and early post-medieval date were seen in association with masonry foundations possibly dating from the late 13th to early 14th century. Although a few loosely dateable artefacts were found closely associated with the wall foundations several pottery and china sherds and clay pipe stems were recovered from overlaying garden soil.
