Abstract: |
Monitoring of the footing trenches for two new buildings in a plot of land off St Mary's Square revealed the presence of occupation of the site in the medieval period. Numerous medieval pits and an oven were found all probably representing activity taking place behind houses fronting onto Southgate Street. An area of post-medieval pits including two probable flint and mortar lined wells were found in the north of the site. Residual Middle Saxon Ipswich ware and Iron Age flint gritted pottery was also recovered. [Au] |
