Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the drilling of geo-boreholes in advance of the construction of a new dwelling. All the boreholes revealed 15-20 cm of topsoil sitting on top of the clay natural. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded. It was likely that this area was not occupied during the medieval and post-medieval period and was an empty area abutting the tenement plots that lined the High Street and East End Lane. An examination of the flower beds recorded only 20th century building debris, a period when this area of Ditchling was developed. [Au] |
