Abstract: |
<summary>A documentary study of Dog Island - a rectangular site on the west bank of the River Trent opposite Gainsborough, defined by earthwork banks and ditches on three sides and by the bank of the River Trent on the fourth side - was undertaken as part of an archaeological assessment. The study traced the complex history of the site (protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument) from its probable origins at the end of the 18th century, and the successive phases of use of the site as a wharf and for other purposes. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
