Abstract: |
The site occupied a position within an Archaeological Priority Area and furthermore covered an area exceeding the threshold of 0.4 ha which the Borough considered should require archaeological field evaluation prior to development. Archaeological finds from the immediate vicinity of the site suggested that there was a moderate to high potential for locally important remains to have existed on this site, primarily from the prehistoric and Roman periods. The potential for remains of other periods, or for nationally significant remains, was low. The eastern portion of the site had been intensively built over and any remains which may have existed there may have been destroyed. The western portion, however, had never been developed, apart from the presence of sewers, and preservation of any remains found there was expected to have been good. A further field evaluation was recommended to further explore the site. [Au(adp)] |
