Abstract: |
Archaeological observation in the outer court of Kenilworth Castle, during the excavation of a trench for a replacement electricity cable, revealed three stone walls belonging to a building or buildings against the curtain wall north-east of Mortimer's Tower. At least one of these was likely to have belonged to the 13th century or earlier and another was in existence until at least the early 18th century. The area where the current cable trench crossed the curtain wall was already heavily disturbed by 20th century services. The new cable utilised a 1991 inspection chamber and trench, to minimise further ground disturbance. [Au(abr)] |
