Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of land proposed for sand and gravel extraction on the Trent floodplain to the north of the river and extending west of the Trent-Derwent confluences was undertaken. The study identified areas of ridge and furrow located within the proposal area and showed that the pattern of field boundaries established during the 1757 Enclosure had been little changed. The Trent and Mersey canal and associated buildings and structures was located immediately outside the northern boundary of the proposal site. A complex sequence of palaeochannels was also identified between Cow Way drain and the River Trent. [AIP] |
