Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken of Branshaw bastle and deserted settlement. The site was considered a good example of an abandoned farmstead, of medieval or sub-medieval origins. Despite the relatively recent date of abandonment the buildings were in a poor condition, probably due to their position in the Otterburn Military Training Area. The most interesting building on the site was the bastle itself, being one of the small group of vaulted bastles, and through being in a remote setting and its association with other abandoned buildings. Suggestions for the conservation of the buildings at Branshaw were made. [AIP] |
