Abstract: |
The natural chalk was not exposed during the watching brief. The earliest deposit exposed was a brownish soil horizon. A chalk dump was present in the vicinity of the chancel above the soil. It may have been a construction horizon. A feature of uncertain date and function cut the chalk dump. It may have been a grave but was overlain by a soil layer that was cut by all the other graves. A total of 14 graves were identified. Only small parts of each burial were exposed in the watching brief. All of the disturbed human bone was collected for reburial at the church. Two 19th century brick vaults were also found. A length of stone wall adjacent to the north aisle wall was of uncertain date. [Au(abr)] |
