Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of the proposed site of an office development with a basement car-park was undertaken. Lower Palaeolithic flints, a Neolithic flint scraper and an earthwork associated with Roman pottery had been recorded in the surrounding area. A second earthwork, possibly a burial mound or a medieval motte, also lay nearby. Two medieval mills had existed in the area. Part of the site itself appeared to have been damaged by gravel extraction. It was concluded that the less badly disturbed areas should be subjected to an evaluation or a watching brief. [AIP] |
