Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	During the course of the evaluation three trenches totalling 42 metres in length were mechanically excavated. Ash deposits probably associated with the former use of the site as a forge were encountered below the current turf layer in parts of the site, overlying the natural clay.
