Abstract: |
A trial trenching assessment was carried out following plans to convert the group of disused farm buildings as Bamburgh Friary into a number of dwelling units. These farm buildings stood on the site of, and incorporated some fragments of, the medieval Dominican friary. This evaluation allowed the principal elements of ground plan of the friary to be reconstructed, its multi-phase nature to be recognised and shown evidence of a previously unrecorded post-Dissolution remodelling of the buildings. This has underlined the importance of the site and demonstrated the extent and generally good sub-surface structural remains. [Au(abr)] |
