Abstract: |
The watching brief carried out during the excavation of three test pits on land adjacent to Duntshill Mill revealed the depth of the footings of Duntshill mill and a sequence of modern concrete, make-up and dump deposits sealing deep river silt and clay deposits. The upper levels of the river silt and clay contained 19th century material (clay pipe fragments, bricks) but the lower levels were devoid of finds, suggesting that they were deposited during a period when human activity had had little impact in the area.
