Abstract:
A detailed set of proposals for archaeological investigation and recording were drawn up for sites of potential archaeological interest which were to be buried by a proposed northwards extension of the waste tip of Littlejohns China Clay Works. The work was started in 1994, and in 1995 several investigations took place. A field survey record of Higher Coldvreath Farmyard was made, three areas around the post-medieval farmhouse were excavated, along with an excavation beneath, and a building survey of, Higher Coldvreath Farmhouse itself. Despite the medieval origins of the farm as evinced by the 1994 work on the field system, the settlement remains were all of post-medieval or later date, their development was recorded. [AIP]
