Abstract:
Seven test pits were excavated across the site as part of an archaeological evaluation prior to the proposed redevelopment of the site. The results from the test pits indicated that Roman features had survived beyond the area of the former Green Arbour Court and that archaeological remains from the medieval and post-medieval periods might also be found. The report recommended that the western basements be archaeologically excavated. As it was not clear how much archaeological material may have survived beyond the basement walls (due to the construction of the present building), a watching brief was recommended in these area during redevelopment along with those areas undergoing pile probing.
