Abstract: |
A watching brief was held over groundworks for a new garage, because the site formed part of an area of archaeological potential due to the presence nearby of a Late Saxon Royal Palace (excavated by Dr Hope-Taylor between 1953 and 1958). It was also hoped that any features discovered might help understand the high status occupation of the immediate area, and the potential development of the associated environment, particularly in the early medieval period. In the event no archaeological finds or confirmed features of the medieval period or earlier were observed during the watching brief. [Au(adp)] |
