Abstract: |
The assesment indicated the potential survival of archaeological remains across the site which lay within an Archaeological Priority Area and had particular significance in respect to the medieval and post-medieval periods. The potential for prehistoric remains on the site was low, although a few chance finds had been recorded in the area. Remains of Roman and Saxon date were unlikely to be present in the area of the site. Previous development of the site was likley to have impacted on the potential archaeology. The report concluded that the proposed development was likely to have a high impact on the potential archaeological remains, particularly within the area of the proposed basement where any extant remains would be removed.
