Abstract:
This evaluation involved the excavation of seven trenches of various sizes. The evaluation set out to determine the nature and date of the probable features identified in an earlier geophysical survey. Features of archaeological interest were recorded in Trenches 3, 4, 5 and 6. These features included a large ditch, linear gullies, a curving gully, and possible stake holes and a possible post hole. No features were located in Trench 1, the major anomaly indicated in Trench 2 proved to be modern, and the large number of features identified in Trench 7 were thought to have been formed by natural processes. The number of finds was small but included prehistoric pot, Roman pot, medieval, post-medieval and modern pottery, and a moderate amount of flint, a small amount of which had been worked. All of the small finds were post-medieval or modern in date. [Au(abr)]
