Abstract: |
Hand-excavation of a lift pit for a development for student accommodation produced evidence of four phases of activity: the earliest phase, of 14th century date, comprised a single brick wall dividing a pit containing highly organic fills later capped by clay and rubble; phase two during the late medieval period involved the construction of a substantial brick wall and internal floors; during phase three further building activity of post-medieval date and of a less substantial nature sealed the wall from phase two. The final phase was represented by the construction of the present warehouse in 1929. [Au(adp)] |
