Abstract: |
The gradiometer survey covered the site of a proposed borrow pit where linear anomolies were identified. They are interpreted as caused by several series of field drains. Four areas of magnetic enhancement and a short, disconituous, positive, linear anomoly were also identified. However, these anomolies did not form a coherent pattern, they were thought to be non archaeological in origin. It was noted that a modern ploughed out field boundary was not detected. Subsequent trial trenching and open area excavation revealed the presence of significant archaeological remains within the survey area. [Au(abr)] |
