Abstract: |
In contrast to the evaluation, which identified predominantly post-medieval archaeology, the excavation uncovered medieval plot boundaries dating to the 13th to 15th centuries. The medieval activity was divided into three phases. Phase 1 consisted of a boundary ditch, Phase 2 consisted of a ditch and areas of trample suggestive that the land had shifted to pastoral use, Phase 3 (14th-16th century) was concerned with the modification of the pastoral landscape and Phase 4 consisted of cobbled yard surfaces associated with farm buildings that stood on the site up until WWII.
