Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of foundations for holiday lodges. A ceramic drainage pipe was located in two trenches towards the west of the site. Some 50m south of these trenches, a robbed-out slot was recorded which most likely represented a continuation of the pipe route. It was possible that the pipeline represented part of an 18th century water supply to Richmond. Alternatively the manufacture characteristics of the bricks were consistent with their use to channel effluent. Analysis of any surface residues and a thin section of the brick fabric were recommended to establish the use and source of origin of the ceramic bricks recovered. [Au(adp)] |
