Abstract: |
A joint investigation between University of Leicester, University of Wales college, Newport and the University of Southampton was undertaken in the area of the Beckhampton Avenue, to the west of Avebury. The excavation revealed buried stones and post-medieval stone destruction pits along its course, together with original stone sockets. An oval enclosure was also revealed predating the Avenue, which had morphological similarities with the first phase of Stonehenge. [Au(abr)] |
