Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment considered the archaeological potential of the site, and the likely impact of the proposed redevelopment. The scheme would entail the replacement of buildings in the northern part of the site with a new hospital, and the disposal of Roehampton House, a Grade 1 Listed Building that stood on the site. The report concluded that the archaeological potential of the site was uncertain. However, any potential archaeological deposits on the site were most likely to have been of prehistoric date. In addition, consideration was given to the history and landscape setting of Roehampton House. The report concluded that investigation by field evaluation (trial excavation) may be necessary to determine the exact nature and depth of any archaeological deposits. [Au(abr)] |
