Abstract: |
An archaeological investigation on the proposed junction improvement to the A259/A2070 aimed to provide information about a raised bank along which the road runs. This was possibly a 13th century canal or sea wall known as Rhee Wall which runs for over 7.5 miles between Appledore and New Romney. A single machine excavated trench revealed a series of deposits forming the north-east ridge of the raised bank and were probably components of the medieval Rhee Wall. A medieval or post medieval drainage ditch recovered was probably a relict extension of extant surface field drains. [Au(abr)] |
