Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken as part of a planning prior to residential development. The desk-based element of the project found that the site lay within a planned medieval village, in an area characterised by long-term habitation. Archaeological excavations and discoveries around the village centre revealed dispersed multi-period activity within a typical fen-edge landscape. Early maps revealed that the southern part of the assessment area was characterised by buildings, which were demolished in the 20th century. The evaluation, consisting of the excavation of three trial trenches, revealed sparse archaeological features, most of probable post-medieval date. A single ditch contained three medieval pottery sherds. [Au(adp)] |
