Abstract: |
Details of Listed Buildings which lay close to the proposed route of a bypass were extracted from the Department of Environment register held by Essex County Council. Buildings within 100m of the road included a range of 16th-17th century cottages, a 17th century house and two 18th century cottages, as well as a 16th century house which had originally been moated. Buildings within 500m of the road included a church of 12th century origin, a 19th century rectory and 16th-17th century tithe barn, a 16th century moated farmhouse and various post-medieval cottages and houses. A 19th century inn which lay on the site of the medieval St Anne's Hermitage was noted as being of historic interest. [AIP] |
