Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was conducted on a c. 85m stretch of the York City walls during the temporary removal of the stone paving slabs, the demolition of the internal brick jack arches and the clearance of rubble from the base of the void between the two walls. This work enabled the insertion of steel bars which tied the curtain wall and the inner wall together. The work was located between the Chainages 822-906. All of the extant fabric of the city walls was found to be 19th century and all deposits observed between the two walls appeared to be modern. [Au(abr)] |
