Abstract: |
Observation was held over trench excavation to facilitate the underpinning of various external load bearing walls. The object of the watching brief was to determine the character, date and state of preservation of any archaeological deposits disturbed by the excavations. The foundations of the current building were shown to be of a shallow nature by the excavations, but the deposits excavated gave little indication of the previous use of the site except for a layer of debris which probably represented the demolition of an earlier building.
