Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to the seeking of planning permission for residential redevelopment. There were very few entries in the GLSMR indicating that the site did not obviously lie within an archaeologically rich area. The cartographic evidence indicated that the site had been farmland in the later post-medieval period and did not lie near to historic settlement nor close to any more isolated structures which could, conceivably, have had medieval or earlier origins. The site itself occupied a relatively small parcel of land and so the potential of encountering archaeological deposits by chance was minimal. Finally, the site visit observed that there was a possibility that some truncation of archaeologically relevant levels may have taken place. On this basis, it was concluded that the archaeological potential of the site was very low and that there was no need for any further archaeological input to the planning process. [Au(adp)] |
