Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a residential development within an Area of Potential Archaeological Importance. 16th century pottery wasters had been found at the site in 1913. During the evaluation, walls which probably represented the boundaries of mid-19th century backplots were recorded, and cellars, wall foundations and a yard surface relating to 19th and 20th century structures were found. Property boundaries constructed of ironworking slag suggested that small-scale ironworking may have taken place in the vicinity. An undated agricultural boundary or drainage feature was noted. Post-medieval pottery, including a waster sherd, was recovered. [AIP] |
