Abstract: |
A programme of historical and archaeological research into the history and background of Caversham Court was undertaken in advance of an Heritage Lottery Fund application. Although the area was poorly served by early maps, it was possible from the tithe map and OS maps to reconstruct the layout of the later gardens and house. A number of old historic drawings and photographs were also available of the site. A tiny fragment of the house incorporating a small pointed arched door was all that survived above ground but it seemed likely that more substantial remains may have lain below the ground surface.
