Abstract: |
21 trial trenches were excavated as an evaluation in advance of the residential development of the site. Natural sand and gravel was revealed in the bases of all of the trenches. The natural was encountered at 113.86m OD in the northeast of the site and sloped down to 112.66 OD in the southeast corner and 112.55m OD to the west. Asphalt hard standing and layers of made ground covered the whole of the site, with the exception of Trench 21, which was covered by topsoil. No archaeological features or artefacts were encountered in the course of the evaluation. This suggested that significant horizontal truncation of the site had occurred during the construction of the former barracks. [Au(abr)] |
