Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a single dwelling identified that it lay to the north of the 18th century walled garden within the Copped Hall Estate, and that it had formerly been occupied by late 19th-20th century glasshouses. The Estate had comprised a deer park, a model farm, lodges and estate cottages, as well as the Copped Hall building and associated structures. Roman remains had been reported at Copped Hall during the 19th century. Medieval buildings had once existed on the estate, and were likely to have been located to the east of the proposal site, within the area of the Old Copped Hall. The glasshouses within the proposal area had been terraced into the slope of the ground, suggesting that their construction would have truncated any earlier evidence. [AIP] |
