Abstract: |
Four evaluation trenches each measuring 25 metres in length were excavated to the north of the main barn complex. This revealed a single small, shallow undated pit/post-hole, two pieces of worked flint and a very abraded fragment of possible prehistoric pottery. Archaeological monitoring of topsoil stripping of a new access road revealed an east-west aligned undated linear feature and a small Medieval pit/post hole. Monitoring of service trenches in the courtyard revealed a undated linear feature. Works to reduce the ground level of the floor of the Grade II listed barn revealed foundation trenches, post pads and internal post holes associated with an earlier phase, possibly 17th century.
