Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a residential development, which lay adjacent to an Archaeological Priority Zone. A number of palaeo-channels were recorded, one of which had been sealed by a dumped deposit of fire-cracked flint. This was assumed to have represented the debris from cooking fires, and suggested that a prehistoric settlement or seasonal occupation had occurred in the vicinity. Large-scale dumping and levelling had occurred at the site during the 19th and 20th centuries, and factory buildings had been constructed. [AIP] |
