Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the replacement of a water main, which was achieved by a combination of open cut trenches and thrust boring. No significant archaeological deposits were encoutered, although a small quantity of post-medieval and modern pottery was recovered from a trench on Osgodby Hall Lane. A fragment of moulded stone found in a pile of cleared fieldstone at Osgodby Manor Farm may have come from a medieval chapel. The presence of modern and natural deposits beneath the road layers at Keisby supported the theory that hollow ways here had been excavated during road widening earlier in the 20th century.
