Abstract: |
Fourteen pits, post holes, and cess-pits from the 13th/14th and 17th centuries were discovered in the garden and car-park to the rear of the Saracen's Head Hotel during an archaeological evaluation in advance of a proposed extension to the existing hotel. A 13th/14th-century post-pit and post-pipe from a structure of unknown size and form were also located. All 14 features were thought to relate to commercial/domestic activity behind the High Street frontage in the medieval and post-medieval periods. [Au] |
