Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken as a planning condition prior to road improvements. There were no known archaeological sites on or immediately adjacent to the proposal site. The nearest find spot was that of a struck flint, with several find spots, some of which could have been regarded as occupation sites, within 200-300m. There were, however, items of cultural heritage interest on or adjacent to the site in the form of a milestone on the old A3 and two quarries, presumably dug for ironstone. These quarries had led to the removal of any earlier deposits of archaeological interest at these locations but were of some interest in terms of the later historic development of the landscape. It was concluded that the impact on the archaeological heritage was likely to have been minimal. [Au(adp)] |
