Abstract: |
Little historic evidence was found for the study area prior to the tithe award of 1834. St. Georges once lay within the great manor of Banwell in the Hundred of Winterstoke, the earliest mention of which was in 1791. No visible or written evidence was found for the survival of archaeology within the study area. The potential was noted for the survival of features relating to the medieval village of St. Georges which lay to the north of the site as well as remains from earlier periods. [AIP] |
